Families who rent a farmhouse for Easter or a fortnight in summer arrive with more luggage than any sports car can swallow, and this is the G we suggest to them: five medium cases and two small ones fit behind the rear seats. The 585 hp V8 and all-wheel drive are the same as on every G 63, but this one is set up for space, and the high doors make lifting children and car seats in and out easier than in a low saloon.
Easter morning brings the Scoppio del Carro in front of the Duomo, and the centre is crowded and partly closed; leave the G at your villa or hotel garage and walk in. For a day in the country, drive south to the Val d'Orcia, about 110 km away, to Pienza, Montalcino and San Quirico among UNESCO-listed hills. Some agriturismi there are reached on unpaved lanes, a non-issue for a G. On a shorter evening, the climb through San Domenico to Fiesole gives the children the whole of Florence spread out below.
Winter tyres are fitted in the cold season, and from 15 November to 15 April they are compulsory on signed Apennine roads. The car is handed over at Firenze Peretola, Pisa Galileo Galilei, Santa Maria Novella or directly at your villa, as agreed when booking. Insurance comes with the rental and assistance is reachable day and night.
