About this car in Florence

The roads that cross the Apennines between Florence and Bologna are where the RS6 GT's stiffer chassis earns its keep. On the SS65 over the Futa and then the Raticosa, the 630 hp V8 and quattro drive pull hard out of every bend, and the GT's set-up keeps the body flatter than a standard RS6. It reaches 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds; the 90 km/h limit outside towns keeps that in perspective.

For a second day, aim south-west: from Colle di Val d'Elsa the SR68 climbs towards Volterra with tighter bends and changing gradients. The GT is still an estate with five seats, so passengers can come along, though the firmer ride is felt on the rougher stretches. On the motorway back to Florence, the 130 km/h limit gives the car a chance to relax.

Winter tyres are fitted in the cold season, and from 15 November to 15 April they are required on signed Apennine roads. In Florence, the ZTL covers the whole centre inside the viali; use your hotel's registered garage or collect the car outside the zone. Handover at Firenze Peretola, Pisa Galileo Galilei or Santa Maria Novella is arranged at booking.
