Updated 15 October 2026

In Rome a luxury car comes into its own outside the walls: the historic centre and Trastevere are camera-controlled ZTL zones, and cobblestones are no place for a supercar. That is why delivery is arranged where the car can actually go: your hotel, a villa on the Appian Way, Fiumicino or Ciampino.

Discover Rome

The best driving starts just outside the city. In half an hour you are in the Castelli Romani above Lake Albano; in a little over an hour and a half you reach Circeo and the Via Flacca to Sperlonga, one of the finest coast roads on the Tyrrhenian Sea. To the north, the Via Braccianese leads to Lake Bracciano and the Etruscan villages of the Tuscia.

Rome is one of the most sought-after cities for weddings and events: a convertible or a chauffeur-style saloon for the big day is best booked a few weeks ahead, especially in spring and September. In May the Italian Open tennis at the Foro Italico pushes demand up.

Good to know

Driving a luxury car in Rome: what to know

  • The ZTL of the centro storico, Trastevere and other central districts is camera-controlled, with daytime and night-time sectors. Fiumicino is about 30 km from the centre, Ciampino about 15.
  • Most historic centres are ZTL limited-traffic zones watched by cameras: driving in without a permit means a fine that arrives weeks later. Give us the address and we will confirm where the car can reach.
  • Speed limits: 130 km/h on motorways (110 in rain), 110 on dual carriageways, 90 on other roads outside towns, 50 in town.
  • Motorways are tolled at barriers (cards and cash; Telepass lanes are for devices only). Outside built-up areas dipped headlights are compulsory by day too.
  • From 15 November to 15 April, signed roads require winter tyres or chains on board — this covers most Alpine and Apennine roads.

Information checked in September 2026. Local rules change: always follow the road signs.
