The car
About this car in Florence
Five kilometres of cypresses run in a straight line from San Guido to the village of Bolgheri, and few roads in Tuscany look better from an open Lamborghini. The Viale dei Cipressi is about 140 km from Florence, past the vineyards that make the great Tuscan reds, and it is the kind of day out the first-generation Huracán Spyder was made for: unhurried, loud, roof folded.
Its 610 hp naturally aspirated V10 and all-wheel drive make it the easiest open Huracán to live with, which helps on the way back, when you can swing north along the coast to the Versilia between Viareggio and the Apuan Alps, then inland to Lucca and home on the motorway. Motorways are limited to 130 km/h, 110 in the rain, and tolls are paid at barriers by card or cash. On country roads the limit is 90, and the car is far more enjoyable at that pace than its 324 km/h suggest.
If you land at Pisa Galileo Galilei, the Spyder can be waiting there, which shortens the run to the coast; Firenze Peretola and Santa Maria Novella are the other handover points, and delivery to a hotel garage inside the ZTL is possible once the hotel registers the plate. Everything is arranged at booking, with insurance included. Winter tyres are fitted in the cold season.
- Roof down along the Bolgheri cypress avenue
- Coast loop: Versilia, Lucca walls and back to Florence
- Collect at Pisa Galileo Galilei, Firenze Peretola or Santa Maria Novella
