About this car in Florence
Twice a year, in January and June, Pitti Uomo fills the Fortezza da Basso with buyers, designers and press, and the hotels around Santa Maria Novella with people who notice what you arrive in. A black GTS Cabriolet is the understated answer: it reads as an ordinary Carrera to most eyes, while under the engine cover sits the new 541 hp 3.6-litre T-Hybrid flat-six.
The fair runs by day; the evenings are for getting out. Fiesole is only a few kilometres up the hill through San Domenico, and with the hood down at sunset the whole city is laid out below the Roman theatre. On a free afternoon the SS65 towards the Futa pass is the place to feel the 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds. This is a rear-wheel-drive two-seater, so in January it runs on winter tyres, and the Apennine roads are signed for them from 15 November to 15 April. June is the easier month for open driving.
The centre inside the viali is a camera-controlled ZTL, so plan the route to the Fortezza without crossing it. If your hotel is inside the zone, it can register your plate for its garage; otherwise we hand over at Firenze Peretola, Santa Maria Novella or Pisa Galileo Galilei. Demand peaks during Pitti, so book early; the handover is arranged with the booking.
