Vienna's Innere Stadt is a maze of narrow streets, and the whole city is a short-stay parking zone on weekdays, paid most easily through the Handyparken app. A four-seat coupé like the M4 CS is manageable here, though a hotel garage is the simplest base for longer stays. The car's real appeal starts at the city limits, and one of the best roads begins inside them.

The Höhenstraße climbs through the Vienna Woods and the Grinzing vineyards to the Kahlenberg, with the Danube and the city spread out below: fifteen minutes from the Ring. For a full day, follow the Danube west to the Wachau, between Melk and Krems, where Dürnstein and the terraced vineyards line the river. Austria's limits are 130 km/h on motorways and 100 outside towns, so the 550 hp twin-turbo six and 3.4 seconds to 100 km/h translate into flexibility on the climbs rather than speed.
