Choose by the week you are coming. Between Christmas and New Year every hotel is full and demand for cars peaks, so book early. In January and February the frozen lake becomes a venue for snow polo and White Turf, and the car parks on packed snow make ground clearance useful; this is where the matte Opalite white and matte Nero Notte stand apart from the row of gloss black cars. Late in the winter collectors bring their cars to a concours on the ice, and matte paint draws the eye there too. Both matte finishes are hand-wash only, worth knowing after a week of salted roads.

The MY2026 is the newest, with the latest cabin and room for five medium bags and a small one, a good choice for lunch over the Bernina in Poschiavo.
In October, when the larches turn gold, the Verde Smeraldo is the one for long drives round the lakes and up to Pontresina. From Milan the usual route runs over the Maloja, open all year, and the Julier stays open in winter. All versions have 585 hp, four-wheel drive and five seats, and we confirm tyres for your dates.

Driving a luxury car in St. Moritz: what to know
- From Milan the usual route runs via Chiavenna and the Maloja pass, open all year; the Julier also stays open in winter, while some higher passes, such as the Albula, close from autumn to spring.
- Swiss motorways require the annual vignette (sticker or e-vignette), foreign cars included: without it the fine is immediate. Ask us whether the car already has one.
- Limits: 120 km/h on motorways, 80 outside towns, 50 in town. Swiss speeding fines are among the highest in Europe and serious excesses are a criminal offence. Headlights must be on by day.
- Switzerland is outside the EU customs union: keep the rental contract and your documents to hand at the border.
