About this car in Florence
Ferraris have been crossing the Futa pass since the days of the Mille Miglia, when the race ran from Florence over the Apennines to Bologna on what is now the SS65. Driving it today in an F8 Spider closes a circle. The 720 hp twin-turbo V8 sits behind your shoulders, the hard top is folded away, and the road climbs out of the city through the Mugello hills, then over the Futa and the Raticosa, about 45 km of bends and open views.
Go on a weekday morning between April and October. The F8 is rear-wheel drive, and the Apennines can hold on to cold and damp longer than the city, so warm, dry tarmac is what you want. Respect the 90 km/h limit on country roads and the passes are still a joy: the V8's response out of each hairpin is the point, not the 340 km/h top speed. Stop at the Futa for a coffee, then decide whether to come back or continue to Bologna. Winter tyres are fitted in the cold season.
In the city the centre is a camera-controlled ZTL. Your hotel can register the plate for its garage; if not, we deliver to a villa or meet you at Firenze Peretola, Pisa Galileo Galilei or Santa Maria Novella. The front boot holds a medium suitcase and a small one. Pick the meeting point at booking; the rental comes with insurance and with assistance available 24 hours a day.
