During the week, most Urus bookings in Lyon start at Saint-Exupéry or Part-Dieu and end outside a hotel on the Presqu'île or in the 6th arrondissement. At the weekend, the Urus becomes a car for the hills. The Bugey, an hour away, has gorges, waterfalls and the pink sparkling Cerdon; the Beaujolais crus are closer still. The Verde Mantis SE, with 800 hp and a 500-litre boot, is the one people choose for these days, when the car is part of the photographs and the cases of wine need room.
From November, the direction changes. La Clusaz and Le Grand-Bornand in the Aravis, Avoriaz and Morzine, the Three Valleys and Valloire are all within a morning's drive, and under the Loi Montagne winter tyres or chains are compulsory in the mountain communes from 1 November to 31 March. For a family with skis, take the blue Urus S or the matte Pearl Capsule, both with 616 litres.
