Tuscan hill towns were not designed for cars, and their approach roads and car parks reward something smaller than a full-size Range Rover. The Sport is lower, shorter and more agile, which you notice on the narrow lanes up to the villages of the Chianti and in the tight car parks outside the walls of Lucca, yet it keeps the high driving position, all-wheel drive and quiet cabin.

The 250 hp 3.0-litre mild-hybrid diesel and automatic gearbox give 0-100 km/h in 8 seconds and an economical cruise on the motorway west to Lucca. From there, the Versilia is a short hop: Viareggio and the beaches below the Apuan Alps, an easy summer day out. There is room for three medium suitcases and a small one, which suits a couple or a family of four with sensible luggage. Winter tyres are fitted in the cold season, so the car is just as useful for the Apennines in winter.

In Florence the whole centre inside the viali is a camera-controlled ZTL. If your hotel is inside it, ask for your plate to be registered for its garage; otherwise we hand over the Sport at Firenze Peretola, Pisa Galileo Galilei or Santa Maria Novella. Delivery is arranged with your booking.
