Which BMW to choose in Venice

The BMW cars that best suit the roads and weather in Venice, each with the reason why.

Discover Venice

For keen drivers, the M2 and the M3 Competition come alive on the twisting roads through the Euganean Hills or up to Asolo and Bassano del Grappa, and the M3 Touring adds an estate boot for luggage. The M4 CS is the coupé for a fast run east to Trieste. Open-top days on the Prosecco hills or Lake Garda belong to the 840i xDrive Cabriolet, the 4 Series Cabrio or the playful MINI Cooper Cabrio.

Families heading for the Dolomites will want the X7, with seven seats, or the X5, X5 M and X6 M Competition, all with xDrive and winter tyres in the cold season. Biennale visitors with several bags also find the X7 an easy airport car. Insurance and 24/7 assistance are included.

Good to know

Driving a luxury car in Venice: what to know

  • There are no roads in historic Venice: cars stop at Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto, where the multi-storey car parks are, or stay on the mainland in Mestre. Handover is arranged at one of these points.
  • Most historic centres are ZTL limited-traffic zones watched by cameras: driving in without a permit means a fine that arrives weeks later. Give us the address and we will confirm where the car can reach.
  • Speed limits: 130 km/h on motorways (110 in rain), 110 on dual carriageways, 90 on other roads outside towns, 50 in town.
  • Motorways are tolled at barriers (cards and cash; Telepass lanes are for devices only). Outside built-up areas dipped headlights are compulsory by day too.
  • From 15 November to 15 April, signed roads require winter tyres or chains on board — this covers most Alpine and Apennine roads.

Information checked in September 2026. Local rules change: always follow the road signs.
